What's in a name?

I realized today that we never really shared how we came up with Murphy's name. No, it wasn't our original name. When we arrived at the hospital we knew our baby needed a new name, for this new circumstance. 

Elijah. Wendy's first name is Simon. My husband I decided that we will call all of our children by their second name, like him. Confusing, yes. Did people think Wendy was a boy, ugh yes. However, I loved giving our child a 'Christian' name. So, we decided to have a family christain name again. How did we come up with Elijah? We didn't. I had it tucked in my memory from when my dad told me that if he had ever had a son he would have liked to name him Elijah Harrison after his great grandfathers. To honor my dad we picked Elijah. It broke my heart that his name choice was tied to a sad occasion. However, I think the name fit perfectly because Elijah means 'Lord is my God'. If at any time I needed to remember that, this was it. God is good all the time, even in the passing of our son. For who knows better about the loss of a son than our God.

Murphy. Again, this is a family name. Wendy (Wendelen) was named after my grandma's (mom's mom) maiden name Wendele. Murphy was my grandma's mom's maiden name.

Rhett. I love this. Wendy's second middle name, yes we believe in child abuse in the form of four names, is Brettney after her daddy. I knew that she would marry and change her last name so I wanted her to still have a tie to her daddy. I wanted Murphy to have a tie too.
